This month I interview Dr. Robert Meiches, CEO of the Minnesota Medical Association (MMA), about the organization’s decision to suspend its House of Delegates until 2016 so that the organization can pilot a new governance structure focused on developing additional ways to engage members. According to the association’s website, “When the HOD convenes again it will meet solely to discuss whether the new governance structure is working, whether it has been ‘successful in increasing member engagement in policy decision-making’ and whether it should be continued.” I personally know of a couple associations that have used suspension as a method for change. Of those, none have gone back to the “old way” of doing things after the pilot has ended. We’ll see if MMA joins that list. Click here to watch on YouTube.
